I’ve wanted a gold ring for the longest time.
But marrying young and becoming a stay-at-home mum meant I didn’t really have the privilege of splurging on myself like that. Every time I looked at a gold ring, I would tell myself:
“One day.”
The problem was that every year I waited, the price of gold kept going up too.
So instead of buying the ring, I started buying gold.
Little by little.
I began my digital gold journey through Hugosave and set up a monthly DCA. Nothing fancy. Nothing impressive. Just small, consistent steps.
Over time, I started seeing the fruits of those small decisions.
At one point, I bought myself a gold-plated ring.
Not because I wanted to pretend it was real.
But because it reminded me of the goal I was working towards.
Every time I looked at it, I wasn’t reminded of what I didn’t have.
I was reminded of what I was building.
I never felt embarrassed wearing it.
To me, it wasn’t a fake ring.
It was a placeholder.
A promise to myself.
Then 2026 came.
And I was finally ready.
A simple gold band like this cost me over $800.
I’m not sharing the price to show off.
I’m sharing it because a year ago, a similar ring was around the $400+ mark and I already thought that was expensive.
That’s when I realised something.
Sometimes waiting isn’t always cheaper.
If I kept waiting for the “perfect time”, this same simple ring would probably cross the $1,000 mark one day.
So I bought it.
Not because it was the smartest financial decision.
But because it represented a promise I had kept.
The ring wasn’t bought overnight.
Long before this ring existed, I was quietly accumulating tiny amounts of gold.
Some months it was only a few dollars.
Nothing glamorous.
Just small, boring, consistent actions.
Whether you choose physical gold, digital gold, ETFs, 916 jewellery, PAMP gold, or something else entirely, do your research and find what suits your own situation.
What worked for me may not be the best fit for someone else.
I started with digital gold because I could begin with a very small amount.
Back then, I started with just $2.
Things have changed since then. Hugosave has introduced new fees and rules, so the same starting point I had years ago may look different for someone starting today.
Physical gold is another option too.
But because you usually need to buy in specific units, I personally think it helps to accumulate first and purchase when you’re ready.
I’ve also traded in 916 gold jewellery for investment-grade PAMP gold before, but that’s a story for another day.
The funny thing about “one day” is that it feels impossibly far away until it becomes today.
Keep it boring.
Stay steady.
One day at a time. 💛
